McGuffey Art Center

McGuffey Art Center, located one block from the Downtown Mall in a historic elementary school building, is one of the oldest artist-run cooperative art centers in the country. Since its establishment in 1975, the art center has been a community of artists, dedicated to practicing art and passing on the creative spirit to the greater Charlottesville community, through creating opportunities for increasing access to art for all.

The McGuffey Association currently includes 50 resident artist members, 100 associate artist members, and 6 incubator artists. The artists within our community participate in varying ways to support McGuffey Art Center and the greater community's growth, through teaching classes and workshops, showcasing works in exhibitions, participating in and hosting events, and encouraging community outreach.

For artists interested in participating in McGuffey Art Center, find out more about our membership application process linked below.
