about the project_logo.png

We're looking for an artist or a group of artists to create a mural on the Red Shed outside McGuffey Art Center. The physical space is located in the parking lot behind McGuffey Art Center and spans (18’ x 6’ — pictured to the right). We're asking artists to come up with their best mural designs that facilitate community dialogue and create a vibrant and welcoming environment.

This project is a partnership between McGuffey Art Center, The Bridge Progressive Arts Initiative, and Charlottesville Mural Project, focused on creating opportunities for Central VA artists to expand their creative repertoire in mural-making.

This mural will be rotating in nature, meaning that the mural will be redesigned and repainted each year, with the intention of encouraging a variety of unique artistic perspectives and showcasing the work of multiple artists each year.

As a muralist or muralist group, you’ll get:

  • All painting materials costs covered

  • An artist stipend of $600 for your time and creative labor

  • Volunteers to aid with your mural painting (if needed!)

  • Documentation of the mural progress / finished mural for your artist portfolio

  • Featured on the McGuffey Art Center, The Bridge Progressive Arts Initiative, and Charlottesville Mural Project’s respective websites and social medias

  • Your completed mural and artist bio archived on the McGuffey Art Center & Charlottesville Mural Project permanently

  • To participate in a mural reveal and artist talk (to coincide with a First Friday opening, COVID-19 permitting)
